Not the same scale but a few days ago, I was walking 40kms, the weather was somewhat nippy and I was so happy to have a bench and a sun ray for my lunch, along with a wonderful view on the Seine and Paris (I was at St Germain-en-Laye): I didn't need anything else.

I was this week-end in Orsay (suburb of Paris), for a funeral. Of course, I was sad, because the dead man was a nice guy. But, on the other hand, I met a lot of interesting people. Also I went to a restaurant. There were waiters and waitresses, from every origin (black, arabian, asiatic, white...) but they were smiling and happy to work together. Unless it is not so easy to live in Paris, because of the high prices of accomodations. We were near a business zone (Courtaboeuf). It's lively and refreshing. Every one works, there is no hatred.

Hi everyone ! Hi Rémy ! hi Gérard !
When we travel the time notion changes all the more so since my husband and I are retired. Before our life moved in time with the medical consultations and now we are free to organize our timetable as we wish. We walk a lot and not always around the place we live. Anyway we have to learn patience which is not so easy. There is always something which goes wrong. Buses will break down, flights will be delayed, and maps will occasionally be difficult to read. At the moment it is impossible to get connected to the network and I feel dispirited when I can't use my computer when I want.
Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.
Ok but it's easier said than done

Big History Project


If we chose to leave Earth, how far would we have to go? What resources would we need and how long would it take us to reach our destination?
We can construct space stations anywhere, but it might be advantageous to build them close to Earth or in Earth’s orbit. Staying relatively close to the Sun is useful, as it can provide most, if not all, of the energy we need. Staying within Earth’s magnetosphere would provide some free protection from cosmic particle radiation.
The moon would be the closest option for an enclosed habitat. Mars is another option, but it’s farther away and would take months to reach, rather than days. This will limit the number of people who can be moved there.
The nearest potentially habitable exoplanet actually orbits Proxima Centauri, the nearest star to our Sun. This system is 4.25 light-years away, meaning it takes light 4.25 years to make the journey. But we can’t currently build any spacecraft that can achieve speeds anywhere approaching light (300,000 km/s). The fastest spacecraft we’ve ever built moved at about 253,000 km/h. At that speed, it would take 18,170 years to reach Proxima Centauri.

Running from one place to another and thinking about the billions of things we need to do, we miss out on the present moment completely. We miss out on the innocence of our children and on the love of our friends and family. We miss out on the beauty that surrounds us and we miss out on life. Because life is here and now. Life isn’t in the past or future. Life is in the present moment. To quote John Lennon, life is what happens while we’re busy making other plans.

What recent research has revealed is that the more religious a parent is, the more likely he or she will seek to cultivate obedience in his or her children, while the more secular a parent is, the more likely will he or she seek to cultivate independence of thought.

For all of those parents out there, let me ask you a question: is it more important for you that your child thinks for herself, making her own decisions concerning various choices she faces in life, or do you think it is better that she defers to those in authority, looking to and listening to teachers, pastors, or other such figures for guidance, and obeying their directives?

I have just read an article in the local press. Because of coronavirus   Calaisians no longer have the right to access their beach until an indefinite time. Is it useful ? Do we have to take everything for granted ?
Are the authorities right to prevent people from walking on the beach when public transport is overcrowded?  Isn't it better to think for ourselves than to foolishly apply rules from above?

Singer-songwriter Jewel didn’t have an easy upbringing. Her childhood was marked by neglect, abuse and anxiety. At 18, she became homeless. Jewel started writing songs because she didn’t know how else to cope, and when she sang them at bars for an audience, she saw her own anguish reflected back at her. “I watched people in pain every day,” she told TIME. “I made a commitment in my life to try to figure out what to do with pain. That journey set me off on an incredible adventure that involved music, but really the number-one goal always was: How do I advocate for myself? How do I fight for my happiness?”

In a recent episode of TIME for Health Talks, Jewel and her friend Dr. Blaise Aguirre, assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, spoke about creative ways for young people to take care of their mental health during stressful times.
Create something

Writing serves as a form of mindfulness for Jewel, helping her stay in the present moment without self-judgment. In her early years, “every time I wrote, I learned something,” she said. “I noticed things I didn’t realize I noticed, and I always felt calmer and less anxious. If you’re observant and curious, you’re forced into the present.”

You don’t have to be an artist, poet, painter or sculptor for creativity to aid your mental health. “I think of creativity in a way not solely focused on art,” Aguirre said. Instead, think of it as mind-expansion, or seeing things in a new and joyful way—not necessarily making something tangible. “Maybe going for a walk is the new creation, because now you’re outside, and you’re seeing the world in a new way,” he suggested.
Don’t dismiss the small things

Aguirre believes in the benefits of living an “antidepressant life“: one filled with lifestyle choices that can improve mood immediately. “There are things that you can do that are going to lift your mood in any case,” Aguirre said. These can include any activity, like hiking or reading a book, that stops the brain from fixating on negative thoughts, and spending time outdoors to stimulate brain chemicals that increase happiness. Meditating, exercising and fostering social connections also help.

Oh, and so does skipping. “You cannot be sad and skip at the same time,” Aguirre said. Once, Aguirre skipped with one of his patient across the Harvard campus to make sure he made it to his therapy session. They looked ridiculous, but “by the time we got there, both of our moods had lifted,” Aguirre said. With another patient, he tried loudly laughing—which releases serotonin—until the patient joined in. Weird, he knows, but it helped.

Of course, medication is often appropriate and necessary, and mental health conditions cannot be solely solved by a giggle. But easy strategies like these can have real effects. “The conditions for happiness exist right now,” said Aguirre. “Little things can make big changes.”
Notice negative thoughts—and change the script

Something that Jewel did during childhood to help herself feel better was to actively try to notice which negative thoughts and compulsions she kept having, and train herself to change them. Whenever she felt the urge to shoplift, for example, she forced herself to write a song. At first, she hated it, but the more she replaced a bad habit with a good one, the more she grew to like it. Eventually, she was writing 10 songs a day.

Through her charity, Jewel now shares these strategies with children. “We curate what photos we show on social media, but we don’t curate our own thoughts,” Jewel said. “But you can. Once you start teaching kids that, you start seeing these kids turn around.”

Scientifically, negative thoughts and internal dialogues really do have the power to change your brain for the worse. “The way we learn anything is by repetition,” Aguirre said. “When you repeat negative thoughts, your brain gets good at negative thoughts. You repeat, ‘Nobody will ever love me.’ You repeat, ‘My life sucks.’ You repeat, ‘I’m depressed.’ And then you look for things in the environment that tell you that that’s the way you should feel. You’re just going to get good at thinking that; it does rewire your brain.”

The solution isn’t to delude yourself into thinking things are great. “But you’ve got to recognize that that’s a pattern,” Aguirre said. “Once you start seeing the world through that lens, you miss out on all the other wonderful things that exist.” Where you choose to focus matters.

Hi everyone.
You can see that Jewel's childhood  was marked by neglect, abuse and anxiety. All that, fortunately, has given her a lot of strength. Sometimes, unfortunately, it is the other way round. I once read Hitler's childhood. He was humiliated and failed to be an artist as his mother wanted him to be. His reaction was to become a destroyer and humiliate others. As for Jewel, what she suffered in her childhood allowed her to find a way to get rid of bad thoughts by rewiring her brain. She was able to write songs and express all her art. She also gave simple advice, especially to children : walking, meditating, social connections or simple things like skipping or laughing because they release serotonin.

Thought power is the key to creating your reality. Everything you perceive in the physical world has its origin in the invisible, inner world of your thoughts and beliefs. To become the master of your destiny, you must learn to control the nature of your dominant, habitual thoughts. String theory hypothesizes that small strings would vibrate inside quarks (others claim they would be loops). 
 Anything in the universe would be composed solely of energy emitted by the vibration of these vibrating strings.String theory is the most recent theory about the Universe.
