Hi everyone,

What do you think? Is this chart serious and interesting or just crap and useless?

Hi Gerard, hi everyone

when you go to the hospital they just ask about your pain on a scale from 1 to 10. This chart offers a different approach because you can express your feelings which is very important

Hi Muriel, everyone,

I understand you find this useful.
As I wrote it, this comes from an American friend (in fact a Quebecker but she married an American and now lives in Kansas).
I guess she xeroxed this from a book.

I wonder if this is a joke or if it is an official chart.
I rather think it is a joke because she posted this for her Am. friends (if it were official, they should know) and I'm surprised by items 4 and 7.

On the other hand, the tone is casual but not that funny.

Hi Guilaine,

First of all, this chart is definitely a joke (confirmed by an English speaking nurse).

I don't know if Muriel was speaking about France or the UK but I confirm that in English speaking countries, the patient is invited to evaluate their pain by a number between 0 and 10.

I can try to give more explanations re 12 - the author tried to describe the most terrible situation or at least more serious than in point 11:
- like "ebola" which is an illness with blood going out from the eyes and other parts of the body
- like "Stigmata" (capital letter meaning proper word) which are the marks left on Jesus' hands and feet (by the nails)
- like "pinkeye" - this is a bit silly as if that makes think of blood too, conjunctivitis is not a very serious clue for "close to death" state.

As for #6, I would say that 6 is the middle of the range 0-12 and the state begins to be legitimate/serious.
