GMOs in the US

Message  gerardM le Mar 5 Fév - 11:30

Hi everyone,

We don't hear much about GMOs in the United States.

In France, we tend to think everything comes from Monsanto and the like which poison the world freely.

-> Missouri next battleground state for GMO labeling
4:00 am Mon January 28, 2013
By Abbie Fentress Swanson
When legislation mandating genetically-modified food labels was proposed in California, Oregon and Washington, I wasn't necessarily surprised. But the recent news that GMO labeling is being considered in Missouri was a little bit of a shock...
Pls notice the single l in "labeling" (there would be "ll" in British En).
A friend of mine who may be a farmer in North Texas keeps posting on the subject, along with Monsanto killing bees.

Object: Monsanto vs. Mother Earth
Our vegetables and fruit are about to be patented to grow Monsanto’s profits, making food more expensive and strangling the farmers we rely on everyday. But we can pressure European countries to step in and stop the corporate food attack. We have no time to lose -- up to 800 patents are in the pipeline waiting to be approved!

It’s unbelievable, but Monsanto and Co. are at it again. These profit-hungry biotech companies have found a way to gain exclusive control over the seeds of life – the source of our food. They’re trying to patent away varieties of our everyday vegetables and fruits like cucumber, broccoli and melons, virtually forcing growers to pay them for seed and risk being sued if they don’t.

But we can stop them from buying up Mother Earth. Companies like Monsanto have found loopholes in European law to have exclusive rights over conventional seeds, so we just need to close them shut before they set a dangerous global precedent. And to do that, we need key countries like Germany, France and the Netherlands -- where opposition is already growing -- to call for a vote to stop Monsanto’s greedy plans. The Avaaz community has shifted governments before, and we can do it again.

Many farmers and politicians are already against this -- we just need to bring in people power to pressure these countries to keep Monsanto’s hands off our food. Sign now and share with everyone to help build the biggest food defense call ever.

organic food is particularly important for babies and pregnant mothers because it is the begining of a new life

Message  MurielB le Jeu 11 Juil - 9:29

Pregnancy is a good time to make the switch to organic foods. By going organic, you avoid exposing yourself to the antibiotics, artificial hormones, pesticides and genetically modified feed found in many non-organic meats, produce, grain and dairy products.

Hello everyone

For sure Making organic baby food recipes for your growing baby will help to keep baby's fragile system relatively free of chemicals and pesticides and it is the same for pregnant women (As shown above)

Still from Susan:

Don't be fooled by front of package labeling.

At first glance, this product may look like a healthy option, but take a closer look and you may be surprised.

While the front label claims this mayo is made with olive oil, the ingredient list shows it also contains canola, soybean oil, sugar and maltodextrin, all of which are GMOs. We also spotted this #ScarySeven ingredient: Potassium Sorbate - which research shows can damage DNA.

You can feel good about leaving this product on the shelf.

Check out these simple recipes for DIY condiments - just in time for the long weekend:

Hi,

Another posting by Susan:

We strongly disagree with the General Mills position of keeping GMO ingredients hidden from consumers. In Europe General Mills products don't have GMO ingredients. Common GMO ingredients include: Modified Corn Starch, Sugar, Vitamin E (Mixed Tocopherols). Join us in calling on Cheerios to remove their GMO ingredients from their cereal and to STOP spending money against GMO labeling and consumers fundamental right to know.

Tell them on their Facebook page or share this post here: http://www.facebook.com/cheerios

As we can guess, Americans are a bit behind on that point but they are catching up.

Hi everyone,

-> http://www.nationofchange.org/huge-victory-non-gmo-label-meat-eggs-approved-us-use-1374935368
Huge Victory: Non-GMO Label for Meat, Eggs Approved for US Use
The American people want to know whether or not their food has genetically modified components inside. But for the most part, the FDA has resisted any efforts to label foods as GMO-free or containing GMOs. Now, however, advocates for Non-GMO foods have done their work with a different regulatory agency, the USDA, in order to get labeling approved for meats and eggs that also indicates if the animals were fed GM food, signaling a small but important success in the fight for a transparent food industry. You may have heard this news, but we’re trying to spread the word even more!
