Continuous Evolution, again Empty Continuous Evolution, again

Message  gerardM Dim 7 Avr - 18:36

Hi everyone,

When I was a teenager, I thought the society in which I was living would stay approximately the same with small changes only:
- I would have a better life than my parents
- I would keep the same job all life long
- science would provide everyone with a better life
- wars would not exist any more anywhere
- etc.

Adults were saying the young generation was becoming awful... I didn't think so: I was happy with my future.

...

Looks like I was pretty wrong, no?

Message  gerardM Dim 7 Avr - 18:42

Hi everyone,

I chose to post this again.

A previous "Contnuous evolution" was started but it went to lots of directions and not the one I was expecting.

What do you think about the changes? How do teenagers behave and act? What are their positive/negative traits (according to you)?

For example, what are the effects of TV, video games, smartphones, Internet...?

Hello Gerard eveyone
Superego doen't exit so much among young people (for instance a young man can live with a young woman without getting married, gay men and women are allowed to get married or to have children etc. ) I think it is a good thing because I belive in freedom of thought and possibility for everyone to express the best of their personality and to choose what is right or wrong according to their beliefs
Anyway we live in a society and it is important to obey certain rules to make it possible. We are in a law-based state. It is difficult to have a good balance between "What I want to do" and "what I have to do" As you know a lot of children lack limits. It is not good for society and not for them either)
The virtual world is very useful ( internet smartphone facebook). I love them Very Happy it brings people closer to each other, it gives a quick information to eveyone but it can be dangerous. It separates people from reality and people tend to live "In their heads" (I don't know the English expression) In the past farmers' children used to see animals being killed and knew that Death was irreversible. you can't ressucitate can you as you can in the video games
Anyway I am not young any more and I would like to have young people's view points.

Hi Muriel,

> I would like to have young people's view points.
So, here I am! Laughing

As you know, I'm very close to new technologies.

Internet -> I'm on the web all day long; when I'm trekking or busy having to attend meetings, I stay late in front of y computer to catch up with friends and events of the day.
How could we live without Internet?
How could we live without Google? Wikipedia??

I tend to do several things at the same time and I'm less patient: when I've to read a document I didn't chose myself, it's difficult to spend more than 3 minutes (I'm able to read my magazines for hours) and it's similar for letters, I usuallt read the beginning, the middle, teh end, that's all!

Video games -> never!
Sometimes very calm and slow ones like "Solitaire" but no wars, no killings...

Facebook -> I do love. I wrote several times about the advantages of Facebook.

Smartphone -> Absolutely necessary!
A drawback though: due to the news titles that are often truncated on a smartphone screen, I've a tendancy to not read entirely and to imagine the rest of the text with the possibility of being wrong in my guessing.

Regarding sports, I'm not very prudent Laughing

Yesterday, it was the marathon of Paris and I thought that maybe I could do it next year...

For this coming Summer, I'm hesitating between 300 and 500 kilometers on foot (ie 1/3 or 1/2 of Vezelay->St Jean Pied de Port). I'm not sure to stay below 30 km/day as I promised.

Hi
According to a lot of specialists, we are at the beginning of a fantastic revolution, to which teens already belong. Numerical technics are already alive and are going to increase.
At the same time, emergent countries need the participation of developed countries. Globalisation is still a fantastic opportunity for young dynamic people in our countries. At the same time, it can break family links. But, thanks to new technologies, we can keep links even when we live in the antipodes.
Anyway, technology doesn't replace human contacts alive...Our period is tougher than before psychologically speaking. There is much more competition than after the Second World War economic boom. At the same time, we ignore war, we are much better treated, we are shelted by welfare state, we live much longer...

There are revolutions periodically. This one is a big one and I'm happy to participate in it as well.

Which domains do you see in the list Rémy (I mean there's far more than ITC)?

> Anyway, technology doesn't replace human contacts alive
No, Technology doesn't replace human contacts: there's room for both.

> Our period is tougher than before psychologically speaking.
How do seniors feel it?
How do kids feel it?
How do you live it?

True.
Is competition good or bad?

Where? Central Europe? Asia? Africa?

> we are much better treated, we are shelted by welfare state
Who is that? Wink

> we live much longer...
Smoking women? People in Fukushima?
In average, yes.

Hello Remy, Gerard
I agree that we are at the beginning of a fantastic evolution. For elderly people (much older than we are Wink ) especially those, like my mother, who had a strict education and an important superego. She can't cope with freedom of thought.
What I like are the cultural interconnexions all over the world. Our homeland is not France nor Europe, it is the world. It would not be possible without Information and communications technology

I think your word "interconnexions" has got a spelling mistake...

I guess that evolutions were similar when your mother was 20... new dances were shocking, young people had impolite vocabulary, etc.

I mean that we have a lot of contacts with different cultures, different ways of thinking. Television allows us to know what 's happening in different parts of the world. we can read books, papers, have a look on internet. My mother was not allowed to read zola for instance. It's unbelivable but it is true. She was in a closed world.

Globalization describes the interplay across cultures of macro-social forces. These forces include religion, politics, and economics.
Intercultural relationship is exciting and draws people closer to one another but globalization also generates mutinational companies whose aim is to make profit. They always pull out to relocate in a country where they can make a greater profit. All that generates unemployment in countries where labour cost is high
Of course globalization brings about good things and bad things. I would just like to see a continuation of openness, a continuation of open-mindendess, a continuation of understanding people of different races and different cultures

Hello everyone !
Girls think diffently now. One day i said to my grand child who had to put off weight (7 years old).
"you have to watch your figure if you want to become a princess"
She answered
" I don't want to become a princess, I want to become an advenuress".
Back in the 40s Disney film heroines like snowwhite had to be rescued, now the girl in "The Princess and and the frog" http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/The_Princess_and_the_Frog for instance is no longer to be rescued, she is part of the rescue operation. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I'm afraid "each other" is misused here. Wink

but globalization also generates mutinational companies whose aim is to make profit.
It's written in our "Code du Commerce": any "société" is created to make profits. Globalization is only an extended opportunity to make more profits.
Before globalization, companies were placed inside national boarders and mainly in front of their local laws.
Since globalization, companies are in the wild world, in direct competition with all of the companies in the world. They won't ever be protected by their government (it's forbidden - in addition, there is no government in the wild world) and either they fight (making more profits) or they disappear.

They always pull out to relocate in a country where they can make a greater profit. All that generates unemployment in countries where labour cost is high
Yes, right: it's globalization.

... I would just like to see a continuation of openness, a continuation of open-mindendess...
Did you look into your dictionary?
Do these words "openness", "open-mindendess" exist? Laughing
