How? When? Where? Why? In what way? How much? How often? Under what condition? To what degree?

Re: Language Learning Base
Hi Gérard, everyone
what I find interesting and easy are the manner Adverbs. They often make an adverb by adding -ly to an adjective. it is not too difficult to remember ! Anyway I think there are exceptions but I don't know them.

Re: Language Learning Base
Yes Muriel: same in French with -ment.
However, don't do this with "fast".
In addition, beware of adjectives ending with "l": e.g. finally, early, eventually, formerly...

Re: Language Learning Base
Another list... it is partial.
There are way more differences vocabularywise.
In addtion, there're oodles of differences in grammar, pronunciation, and -of course- culture.

For the French "trottoir":
- American - sidewalk
- British - pavement
- Australian - footpath
Everyone wants their own

This is another invaluable document
for conditional sentences are very frequent
so that if you know these paterns, you master oodles of English sentences.
Easy: it's exactly the same as in French!
Add another case: The zero conditional describes situations that are always true.
Example: if you know these paterns, you master oodles of English sentences.
Re type II, note the very frequent American form:
If conditional then conditional
eg If we would have more employees, we would work more efficiently
or
If we'd have more employees, we'd work more efficiently
Sure that British old timers frown
especially when they hear this said by Britons.
(it's the first clause of our French "si j'aurais su, j'aurais pas venu")
Conditional sentence tho' without any if-clause:
Had we more emlployees, we'd work more efficiently.
