Yes, setbacks are important because they bring you strength. Anyway too many are not so good because they make you lack confidence.

Hi Muriel, rumour has it that Mark Twain didn't actually say this.

Twain said “Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.”
This is funny, meaning that if you argue with a foolish person, the people watching and listening may not be able to decide who the real fool is ... you or the fool !

But it was George Carlin, the comedian, who said “Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

Over time, the two expressions have become intertwined, and get mixed up.

As for the meaning, it goes something like this ...
If you argue with an idiot or stupid person, your conversation will just become stupider and stupider, till you sound like the original person (at their level of stupidity) but they will always win the argument, because they have much more experience in being stupid or idiotic than you do !
