Gerard I have read a series "The earth's children".  The series is set in Europe during the Upper Palaeolithic era, after the date of the first ceramics discovered, but before the last advance of glaciers. The books focus on the period of co-existence between cro-magnons  and Neanderthals. Everything is very well documented especially the relationship between cro-magnon and Neanderthal.

Muriel,

Could you help me understand why there are 2 spellings:
- Néandertal, rather French
- Neanderthal, rather English.
However, as you can see, the text I posted writes "Neandertal" which is unusual
If you ask Google for "Neandertal", you'll mainly get French links...

Of course, the true spelling should be "Tal" as it comes from German.

Remains of a Neanderthal woman who lived around 100,000 years ago in the Altai Mountains of Siberia reveal that human and Neanderthals mated much earlier than previously thought.

Hi Gérard, I don't know about Neanderthal spelling but I see from your picture that beauty isn't necessary to seduce a partner ! Wink

Muriel,
I'm very surprised this granddad is as uggly as sin. LOL

Decades ago, Neanderthal was said not to be human and pictures showed them with a truly revolting face... then he became a bit better.
Again, I'm surprised as thre are now about 5 species at the same level of humans.
