"My friend's mom has eaten healthy all her life. Never ever consumed alcohol or any "bad" food, exercised every day, very limber, very active, took all supplements suggested by her doctor, never went in the sun without sunscreen and when she did it was for as short a period as possible- so pretty much she protected her health with the utmost that anyone could. She is now 76 and has skin cancer, bone marrow cancer and extreme osteoporosis. My friend's father eats bacon on top of bacon, butter on top of butter, fat on top of fat, never and I mean never exercised, was out in the sun burnt to a crisp every summer, he basically took the approach to live life to his fullest and not as others suggest. He is 81 and the doctors says his health is that of a young person. People you cannot hide from your poison. It's out there and it will find you so in the words of my friend's still living mother: " if I would have known my life would end this way I would have lived it more to the fullest enjoying everything I was told not to!" None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean. Say the truth that you’re carrying in your heart like hidden treasure. Be silly. Be kind. Be weird. There’s no time for anything else."

The precautionary principle is on fashion these days, especially for governments, or doctors, or others that leads to avoid evolutions; on an individual level, as stated by Gere hereabove, it can lead to poison our lives in order to prevent any possible harm...
Is it clever behavior do you think? Gere states: "Be silly. Be kind. Be weird" otherwise you would miss oodles of good time in your life.
The precautionary principle or precautionary approach to risk management states that if an action or policy has a suspected risk of causing harm to the public or to the environment, in the absence of scientific consensus that the action or policy is not harmful, the burden of proof that it is not harmful falls on those taking an action.

Hi Gérard, everyone !
As far as doctors are concerned it is very difficult not to take the percautionary principle into account. Doctors must bear in mind that if something wrong happens the patient can take an action against them which could be very annoying. Doctors can't take risks and sometimes taking risks could save a patient.

I demand to stay the only guy responsible for my own health and my own life (it's my business): I hate doctors or anyone trying to manage my life (including politicians, or marketing staffs, or partners).

I understand what you mean.
Anyway in case of an emergency, an accident for instance and you are in a coma, a doctor can choose either to take risks or stick to the precautionary principles.
with risks you have a chance to be saved but if something wrong happens when the doctor has not respected the precautionary principles he can have an action taken against him.

Personally I was first interested in that philosophy But I soon found out that this was not my thing. If I could live my life again, I wouldn't change my main choices and I would only avoid a few mistakes.

I do hate this Principle!
Before subscribing to a walking association, they demand a certificate from a doctor: to walk you don't need to put a foot before the other but you must ask a doctor for permission.
In addition the association asked me to subscribe to the national federation...
The doctor won't write I may walk but they don't see anything against my walking
Last time I went there, a doctor wanted me to go take heart exercises at a specialist's.
Everyone wants to open a big umbrella and everything gets more and more complicated!
That's why I chose to walk by myself: no need to belong to an association - walking is said to be good for health, no???
I'm speaking about health and doctors but there're oodles of examples with politicians and others: everywhere, everything, everyone... life is ruined by useless people!

The problem is that they need a responsible person if something wrong happens and your walking association doesn't want to be responsible.

Precautionary principle leads to inaction and inertia because nobody wants to be held liable for anything.
To be independent is the best choice I think.That's why I chose to walk by myself:

I think one has a lot of benefits to prepare everything by oneself and walk by oneself . . As I don't have the sense of orientation, I would always need to be accompanied.
