Hi everyone,

I received an email from an American friend (Brittany's uncle):
I have a small request from my office. My company specializes in using technology to create and run tests that evaluate language abilities automatically. These tests are then used by large corporations or governments to quickly assess spoken skills in English, Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Dutch and ... soon ... French. I was trying to find someone who could tell me if any or all of the following TOLL FREE numbers in France are working. Would you be able to dial these numbers from a landline phone (not a cell phone) to let me know if they work? I would really appreciate your help.
That's interesting!

I wonder what computers manage to do nowadays? Capable of evaluating language abilities? Wow!

Of course I asked for details (but stated I was not working for WikiLeaks).

Hi everyone,

Details:
I didn't know that you also had ties to language learning. Do you
normally engage with foreigners learning French or young native French
learners? Our technology to evaluate language was developed by a couple
of Stanford professors in the 1990s and was recently purchased by the UK
publishing and education company, Pearson.

Here is the link to our company and its services:

I've only been here 9 months but I am impressed by the level or research
that they continue to invest in their solution. We operate like a small
company, although we are part of a much larger one (Pearson), which has
its pluses and minuses!

I am also impressed ! I thought only a human being was clever enough to do so.

Indeed Muriel!

There's a possibility, on their Web site, to get a free test... I didn't run it yet.
I wonder if it's language recognition or simply something around clever questions about a spoken text heard on the phone...

As we are at it, I point out the "purchased" in the second email.
This verb was said to me as an old-fashioned one and to avoid it except for big objects like houses, etc. The guy who told me this was more British...
I disagree: this word is used by a 35-year-old American guy and the same word was commonly used by an American friend (I never heard buy from her mouth though her mother was born in England).
