They set in motion a global movement against apartheid
           Tianannmen Square 1989
Hundreds of students possibly thousands were killed and it showed how far the government would do to supress dissent (China is still not a demeocracy)
            Velvet Revolution, 1989
It was one of the most rapid and complete successes for a student-led movement in modern history. Just 11 days after the protests began, the communist party of Czechoslovakia relinquished.
                 Iran, 1999
Since Iran’s 1979 revolution, student activists had generally been tied to political parties. After the 1999 protests, that ceased to be the case.

Nowadays psychologists say that there is  a new phase in the life course between adolescence and childhood "emerging adulthood" At that time Young people are relatively free from adult responsabilities and ready to play a full part in our society which is a very good thing.
