what does the word " hipster" mean ? Empty what does the word " hipster" mean ?

Message  MurielB Ven 14 Jan - 9:57

On reading "courrier international"one day I came across the word “hipster”. I only knew: hippy, bobbo, skin-head etc and I was really amazed.
Tight pants, trendy T-shirt, glasses and a beard are some of the observable qualities that define a hipster. They usually are in their 20s or 30s express an anticonformist bohemian lifestyle and a penchant for irony
I would like to know more about them. Could you help me ?

Muriel,

As far as I know
"hipsters" (plural) are Fr "pantalons taille basse" (British??).
There's also the adjective hipster that they use in expressions like hipster trousers, hipster skirt...
"Hipster" (singular) is also used to designate people on fashion -at a certain period- (Fr "branché" or our "bobo").

"Hip" means Fr "hanche".
"Hip" is also an adjective which means "branché", "dans le vent", "à la page".

I'm looking forward to reading words from our British members.
