Patch Tuesday Empty Patch Tuesday

Message  gerardM Mar 11 Jan - 14:03

Hi everyone,

Tuesday? 2nd Tuesday of the month?

Then it's Patch Tuesday!

Wouldn't there be another IT person to tell us about this event?
... Otherwise, I will edit this message.

~~ edit

I'm speaking about computing as it is very important for the safety of the computers; I do this in English so that I can be forgiven Very Happy but it is an advice to every member whatever the language.

Every 2nd Tuesday of the month, Microsoft publishes a collection of modules to fix flaws found in the system.
Normally your computer should be set to automatically perform Windows Update.
At the end of our day (when Redmond, Washington State reaches the middle of its - 9 hours time difference behind France), when turning off the computer, we should receive a warning about it and a message asking you to let the program operate.
Otherwise we'd have to do this manually.

As usual, Microsoft published an Advanced notification on Jan.6: Microsoft Security Bulletin Advance Notification for January 2011 -> http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms11-jan.mspx
Clicking "Executive Summaries" you will see 2 items and "Windows Operating System and Components" will show the details. Anyway!

"Patch" is a casual word for "correction".
As this event takes place on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, it is called Patch Tuesday. If something important occurred in the middle of the month, there would be other Windows Updates.

Windows Update is the point number ONE for the security of your system: it includes the corrections for all of the programs by Microsoft.
Another similar and very important point is the update of any other program installed on your computer such as Adobe Reader, Winzip, Adobe Flash Player, Sun Java, etc. edited by non-Microsoft companies.
The antiVirus/antimalware programs have their integrated update function.

Any questions? I would give you more explanations.

Hi everyone,

I don't know what they did yesterday Wink but the guys in Redmond (Microsoft's Headquarters) didn't publish the corrections in our day.

They probably did the job at the end of their day as yesterday night when I turned off my 'puter at 1:00 am (4:00 pm Pacific Time), I had no update notification.
But I do have now Smile

So, don't forget: you need to start Windows Update.

Hi,

I wonder what happens... there's another update advised by Microsoft. It's considered as "Important".
They probably forgot something or they found a flaw in a former patch.

This is exceptional update: please, run it.
