Do different languages confer different personalities?
Hi everyone,
Do different languages confer different personalities?
Do different languages confer different personalities?
LAST week, Johnson took a look at some of the advantages of bilingualism. These include better performance at tasks involving "executive function" (which involve the brain's ability to plan and prioritise), better defence against dementia in old age and—the obvious—the ability to speak a second language. One purported advantage was not mentioned, though. Many multilinguals report different personalities, or even different worldviews, when they speak their different languages.

Re: Do different languages confer different personalities?
Of course ! It is very important to speak more than one language. You speak differently according to whom you speak to. You speak Italian to your friend, German to your enemy, French to your lover and Spanish to God. I would say that you express different sides of your personality.

Thank you Gérard for you comment. "to who " is not grammatically correct but more and more English people use it. Have a look and see for yourself.gerardM a écrit:Hi Muriel,"grosses fautes" - Sorry for that but would you like to fix the mistakes (a typo and a tiny mistake)Merci de me faire part des grosses fautes dans mes messages en langue étrangère. Muriel,
Yes I can understand Mohamed (the one just copming from the bled) speaking French...
"Whom" was the typo. However many people, including Americans, will frown.
