Re: English Idioms 3
On the Web page, "very" is written with "rr": of course, it's a typo, not the new spelling even tho' the USA changed its president
I remember years ago when my boss changed and I had an American one: I discovered "I appreciate it" in place of "thanks", I liked this!

Are you uncertain which one is right? There are a lot of words in English that look or sound alike but have very different meanings...

Easy to confuse when words are so close pronunciationwise... and French ears so untrained in subtle sounds.

Re: English Idioms 3
I agree Muriel. It's very interesting to realize these random choices crossed the Channel.MurielB a écrit:Most of these expressions can be litterally translated into French can't they?
I don't see a word-to-word translation nor the French expressions for "Paint the town red", "Tickled pink" ("tickled"?? - Idioms - tickled pink ou to death ravi), "Blue-eyed boy", "With flying colors".
Re "With flying colors", I guess there's something to do with the flag in the army but I can't remember the French equivalent, can you help me pls?
