So?

Cupboard is the general term for pieces of furniture used to store things in the kitchen, in the bathroom, in any room. Another term is closet, mostly used in the USA (for Fr penderie, they say wardrobe in the UK, and closet in the US).
A cabinet is a small and beautiful cupboard, a piece of furniture that is in the living room (not attached to the wall, not in the kitchen, not in the bathroom); cabinetmaking=Fr ébéniterie.
