I have read chapter 1 very carefully and noted all the good advice. For me what is important is sustaining the motivation. Everyone has their own motivation. Language learning can be for a job promotion, for travelling, for exams etc. For me the motivation is more philosophical and I enjoy reading "salon multilingue" posts. I totally agree that multilingualism and multiculturalism are  the world richness. The "café polyglotte" concept=>"café polyglotte sur le net + polyglot café network can help.

Thank you for the interesting posting, quite relevant to our interest and love for languages (and certainly useful for you in your teaching tasks ! ) .
The most important thing for me is the close and important link between learning and emotion, and besides I think emotion is everywhere , even if we can regret it, it's part of our inner mental functioning . It should be an help but it's sometimes an hindrance.
Last week in the cafe polyglot in Calais I met a man ( in his fifties) who told me every five minutes that learning english was difficult, as an excuse for the mistakes he makes, regardless of mine he didn't even notice . ... This feeling seemed to be really depressing for him, and instead of trying to speak or reformulate he stopped, waiting for his wife to continue for him..
In his plant, his boss is very supportive and would like his employee ( who must be kind of manager) be more fluent in English, which is certainly crucial for running important meeting for exemple . He knows it is important for him to climb the ladder. At work he takes two hours lessons a week (or less I don't remember) and told me that often he feel sad because his teacher who is native english corrects him every time , for every mistake... So the first mistake of this teacher ( who must be a good teacher otherwise) according this post is perhaps not to give enough signs, that his pupil is on the good path, that he is improving (a pad on the shoulder !) ; every time he corrects the pupil, this one thinks in himself, "yes this teacher is very good and very serious he notices every mistakes i make, he worthes the 130 euros my boss gives him for the job !" but in the same time a more negative thought : "yes he corrects me so often, I am very bad at speaking English !, I will never manage it " . He told me too that after two hours face-to-face with the teacher he feels tired . So the second mistake of this teacher is not to notice the fluctuations of the attention of his pupils . He would be certainly better to take two time one hour lesson than two hours in a row .... but is it possible in the schedule of the teacher and the manager ?
I think it's a whole booklet about teaching and learning languages , I will try to find the following chapters on the internet, if it is possible .
