Staying Alive is Not Enough

Is there a smidgen of difference between execution by firing squad and that by hanging? Picture their corpses as you watch the faux drama of Republicans and Democrats squaring off for next year’s election. Though the parties pretend there’s an enormous gulf separating them, in fact little daylight shines between them (or in them, or from them, either). Far worse, however, is that millions of Americans buy into this sham even as the political class argues over whether to shoot or hang us. And voters yell and rage at each other as if shooting rather than hanging will save the country. How much better it would be if we serfs stepped back from the fray to realize that either way, we are equally dead.
