No Gérard, I didn't find the expression on the internet. In French I would say "passer au tamis"when you don't want to take for granted everything people say Anyway I am not sure that it is right in French either.

Muriel, your French expression is fine but not your translation, sorry.
As a matter of fact, it's not good advice to translate a figurative expression word for word.

It's not a problem Muriel.
English is rather close to French and a few expressions can be translated word for word but not all of them.
Idioms, expressions, figurative meanings, phrasal words, prepositions... let's be careful in any language.

Muriel, I don't always have enough time to check everything, in this case, I prefer to use basic English (I mean what I'm sure of).
When I have a while, if I suspect difficulties (expression, figurative), I check and I'm often pleased to discover many new points and I often spend much time going from discovery to discovery, from marvel to marvel... lots to learn.
