Hi Gérard!
I have seen another one which is a bit weird
Dream of a funeral and you hear of a marriage. and Dream of a funeral and you hear of a wedding.
Prov. If you dream that a person has died, you will learn that person is to be married. Alan: I had a dream last night that my sister was killed. Jane: Dream of a funeral and you hear of a marriage.

Did I ever write how important prepositions are to pretend to master a language Wink ?

... if someone tells me: "J'ai habité Paris pour 3 ans", I can judge their level thru the "pour" which is only the translation of the foreign "for, für, etc."; they didn't take a big advantage of the 3 years in France to improve their language... a pity as "pendant" is a very common word in conversations.

Gérard a écrit:"J'ai habité Paris pour 3 ans",
Some people tend to literally translate their own language into the foreigh language they are learning ! The idea is to think in the foreign language you are learning !

Gérard it is important to bear in mind that in British English and American English the irregular verbs are differnt
In American English the verbs burn, dream, lean, learn, smell, spell, spill and spoil are all regular.
Burn / burned / burned
Dream / dreamed / dreamed
Lean / leaned / leaned
Learn / learned / learned
Smell / smelled /smelled
Spell / spelled /spelled
Spill / spilled / spilled
Spoil / spoiled / spoiled
In British English, these verbs are usually irregular with past tenses and past participle forms ending in –t.
Burn / burnt / burnt
Dream / dreamt / dreamt
Lean / leant / leant
Learn / learnt / learnt
Smell / smelt / smelt
Spell / spelt / spelt
Spill / spilt / spilt
Spoil / spoilt / spoilt
Note that regular forms are also used in British English, but they are much less common.
In American English, spit has both spit and spat as past tense and past participle.
Quit and wet are regular in British English.
Quit / quitted / quitted
Wet / wetted / wetted
In American English these verbs are irregular
Quit / quit / quit
Wet / wet / wet
Dive is regular in British English, but can be irregular in American English.
Dive / dived / dived (GB)
Dive / dove / dived (US)
In American English, the past participle of get can be got or gotten.

Muriel,

I thought so and that even in British En the tendency was to go to regular verbs.
After your post, I see that a few verbs are regular in British English and irregular in American scratch

Writing in Plain Language
Plain language (also called Plain English) is communication your audience can understand the first time they read or hear it.
Plain language is defined by results—it is easy to read, understand, and use.
