Dawn French Fan Club 3
Hi everyone,
I open this new thread "Dawn French Fan Club"
because I often pick up the postings of this organization
from their Facebook page;
in addition, I find them very funny:
I do like them.
Dawn French is well known in all of the British English speaking countries. She is a one-woman actress and sometimes plays with Jennifer Saunders.
Thanks to "Dawn French Fan Club"!

I finally found the name I was looking for for several months!
In addition to Jennifer Saunders, Dawn often plays with Vicky Pollards.

Pat and Mick decide to apply for jobs at a mine that had opened nearby. After sitting in the waiting room for a while, Pat gets called in for his interview.
The boss asks Pat if he had worked underground mines before, and Pat replies, "Yes, of course I have."
The boss asks him how deep under ground he worked, and Pat says, "Oh, about 8 to 10 feet." The boss says, "Mines are a lot deeper than that; get out of here - you're no miner!"
On his way out, Pat tells Mick to tell the boss that he worked real deep underground so he could get the job.
Mick gets called in. The boss asks Mick if he had worked underground mines before, to which Mick says, "Oh sure."
The boss asks how deep underground he worked, and Mick says, "I used to work in a mine 20,000 feet underground."
The boss says, "20,000 feet, wow! That is incredible! What kind of lights did you use in a mine so deep underground?"
Mick says, "Oh, I didn't need lights, I worked on the day shift!"

A man is sitting reading his newspaper when his wife sneaks up behind him and whacks him on the head with a frying pan.
"What was that for?" He asks.
"That was for the piece of paper in your trouser pocket with the name Mary Ellen written on it," she replies.
"Don't be silly," he says, "Two weeks ago when I went to the races. Mary Ellen was the name of one of the horses I bet on."
His wife seemed satisfied at this and apologized.
Three days later he's again sitting in his chair reading when she nails him with an even bigger frying pan, knocking him out cold.
When he comes around he asks, "What was that for?"
"Your horse phoned!"

Keep it Muriel as it is a common one.
However, this word has got several meanings and inevitably, there's a possibility of a swearword or even a vulgar one (I'm thinking of "to whack off")
Let me also point out that Americans always/often pronounce the "h" in "wh", at least differently from the Brits.

For this meaning (and a few others) there're oodles of synonyms (true synonyms)... incredible but so many words have an unexpected dirty meaning.

Re: Dawn French Fan Club 3
Three Irishmen, Paddy, Sean and Seamus, were stumbling home from the pub late one night and found themselves on the road which led past the old graveyard.
“Come have a look over here,” says Paddy, “It’s Michael O’Grady’s grave, God bless his soul. He lived to the ripe old age of 87.”
“That’s nothing,” says Sean. “Here’s one named Patrick O’Toole, it says here that he was 95 when he died.”
Then Seamus yells out, “Good God, here’s a fella that got to be 145!”
“What was his name?” asks Paddy.
Seamus stumbles around a bit, awkwardly lights a match to see what else is written on the stone marker, and exclaims, “Miles, from Dublin.”
