Marriage is no longer a person's only goal.women’s professional investment, temporary unions and desire for independence give birth to happy and proud singles.
Hi everyoneHuman societies, at all times and places, have organised themselves around the will to live with others, not alone. But not any more. During the past half-century, our species has embarked on a remarkable social experiment. For the first time in human history, great numbers of people – at all ages, in all places, of every political persuasion – have begun settling down as singletons. Until the second half of the last century, most of us married young and parted only at death. If death came early, we remarried quickly; if late, we moved in with family, or they with us. Now we marry later. We divorce, and stay single for years or decades. We survive our spouses, and do everything we can to avoid moving in with others – including our children. We cycle in and out of different living arrangements: alone, together, together, alone.
Marriage is no longer a person's only goal.women’s professional investment, temporary unions and desire for independence give birth to happy and proud singles.

Re: The rise of solo living
Indeed.
However, behaviours are perhaps beginning to change. Nowadays, couples sometimes stay together instead of divorcing. Every spouse lives one's private life separately, but the couple remains for the interest of children, for financial reasons, and also to avoid loneliness...Of course, it requires from the spouses to be open minded.

As you say Remy, the secret of a successful married life is to stay as independent as possible!

Re: The rise of solo living
As a conclusion "True love unites but does not bind" do you understand what I mean ?

"True love unites but does not bind"
"It requires from spouses to be open-minded"
To live together and side by side : is it not to live a double life ?
How can we keep secret one's activities, and not share evertything when we live together ?
Remain independent doesn't mean keep silent.

Thanks for your comment Guilaine. I have always loved Khali Gibran’s teachings His words about marriage inspired me...
Khali Gibran a écrit: Yes, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of heaven dance between you. Love one another, but make not a bond of love.

Marriage protects the spouse who doesn't work.
But if you have a job, and that you want to get the advantages of the marriage, without the drawbacks : sign a pacs !
