Earthquakes and Tsunamis
Hello peoples,
What a horrible start to 2011 !
Deadly floods and mini tsunamis in Australia, deadly earthquake in New Zealand, and now HUGE deadly earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
There is a popular Doomsday theory doing the rounds, that says the world will end on 21 December 2012.
This is because the Long Count Calendar of the Ancient Mayans ends on 21 Dec 2012.
There isn't much information regarding what the Mayans thought would occur in 2012, but the consensus of opinion is that there will be great change.
Maybe all these horrid weather catastrophes are the hints of worse to come !
I don't think I'm a believer, but at the same time I'm planning to live every day somewhat capriciously, and have fun while we are still able !!!

Re: Earthquakes and Tsunamis
Hello ChristinaD, everybody,
these events are really dreadful.
The tidal wave could reach Australia, but probably quite weakened.
As if human problems were not enough...
Sorry for this bad english. I would deserve hot beer !

Hi Krystyna, hi Muriel, everyone,
I think too that the Earth is not yet going to disappear. Not even humanity.
But there is a new disaster, probably as serious as Tchernobyl, which is occuring.
More, as six reactors are concerned, it could be more serious.
I can't understand that japonese engineers didn't predict the effects of a tsunami to nuclear power plants. They have copied out the States or France, where this risk doesn't exist. All the same, I'm very surprised.

Hi Bertrand, hi everyone,
~~
Maybe tactless to speak about the subject while rescuers keep finding corpses in Japan but do you know that there's no identity card in Australia?
- a person can change their name as required
- such events like floodings are a good opportunity for people to disappear: change their partner, erase any bad past, start a new life, etc.
I don't know about the UK: do they now have identity papers? is it possible to change one's name?
I guess Krystyna was referring to the floodings that occurred in QLD at the beginning of 2011 -> Australia's Queensland faces 'biblical' floodRemy a écrit:... The tidal wave could reach Australia, but probably quite weakened...

Re: Earthquakes and Tsunamis
A happy news story from Japan, what an incredibly lucky guy !
A Japanese man who was swept 9 miles out to sea by Japan's deadly tsunami was plucked to safety Sunday after being spotted clinging to a piece of wreckage.
A Maritime Self-Defense Force destroyer rescued 60-year-old Hiromitsu Shinkawa after discovering him floating on a piece of roof in waters off Fukushima Prefecture, two days after the disaster struck.
The man, from the city of Minamisoma, which was virtually obliterated, was swept out along with his house.
He was conscious and in good condition after his rescue.
Shinkawa told rescuers : "I ran away after learning that the tsunami was coming.
But I turned back to pick up something at home, when I was washed away.
I was rescued while I was hanging to the roof of my house."

Re: Earthquakes and Tsunamis
Hi everyone,
Kinda good news for the Japanese.
Microsoft apologizes after Japan Twitter backlash
Microsoft was forced to issue an apology after being accused of using the Japan quake disaster as a chance to market its Bing search engine.
The software giant pledged to give $1 to Japan quake victims for every re-tweet of the following message:
...
Microsoft has now donated $100,000 to the Japan quake disaster fund.
