When a set is not a set !

G'day to everybody,

So, I have discovered another surprising thing in French !

Imagine how "flabbergasted" I was to receive only ONE table mat (dessous-de-plat) when I expected to receive a set of FOUR !
In English a set means a collection of things, eg a set of drinking glasses, or a set of cutlery, or a set of salt-and-pepper shakers
So it was very surprising to discover that a French set means only ONE item !
* sigh *

How the hell it is you've your glasses by 4? cutlery by 4 as well??

What are salt-and-pepper shakers???
Sorry, yes I understand but why do you call them shakers? why shaking pepper? I just pour out a pinch... be careful having the lid on when shaking otherwise there will be sneezing and coughing around.
Do you also have them by 4? lol

So I guess your sets are sometimes by 4, sometimes by 2, sometimes by 6... in France it is by 1

I have no idea why they are salt-and-pepper SHAKERS, but they are well a SET !
Maybe SPRINKLERS would be a better word ?
Most things come in sets of FOUR, just look at an IKEA "cattledog" !

I'm still flabbergasted at your pepper-and-salt shakers (in set of 4)!

Yesterday night, my sons reminded me of a silly thing I did on vacation with them: I had purchased a bottle of Orangina and the motto/slogan was saying we had to shake it energically unless it said that after having drunk, we were energically shaken LOL
Why did I shake the bottle before opening? Anything but this...!!
I spent hours cleaning the walls of the room!!

I'm able to spread pepper thoughout the room as well!
