Howdy.

I just started a topic on Facebook to inform my American friends.

I'm very excited: the "Hermione" is leaving France after 11 months to be built in Rochefort. She will reach the US east coasts within about a month.

To my American friends...
Do you know about "Hermione"?
I can't write a long message here but...
"Hermione" was General Lafayette's ship when he joined the American Revolutionary War in 1780.
The French rebuilt a replica of "Hermione": this ship is about to leave France tomorrow I guess.

French frigate Hermione (1779) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Hermione was a 12-pounder Concorde class frigate...
EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG

The boat is wonderful!
- it's a replica (at least as close as we could because we had to respect today's sea rules)
- it took 11 months to be built (with the technics of the 18th century)

- cost is 27 billion Euros
- weird points:
--- there're girls as sailors (European rules demand at least 30% women)
--- the team will have 80 sailors (in 1780, there were 300 of them)
--- there will be the French Blue-White-Red flag - of course it didn't exist in 1780 but nowadays sailing rules want a present flag
--- etc

Follow the adventure.
As far as I know the boat will be sailing up the US east coast in about 1 month.
