Here's a good opportunity to learn there're 2 different words: peek and peak
with, as far as I know, have the same pronunciation
(which is rather exceptional in English
-my ears often hear similar sounds which is not true but I've got French ears-)
Let's not confuse between both words.
I personaly used "to peek" in computing long ago with the meaning of to read, to take (as opposed to "to poke")

There're other words with close pronunciations such as "to pick" but even a French ear should hear a difference

Don't forget to look into a dictionary to find out all of the meanings including phrasal verbs...
