The Quiet Girl (Irish: An Cailín Ciúin [ənˠ ˈkalʲiːnʲ cuːnʲ]) is a 2022 Irish coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Colm Bairéad.The dialogue is mostly in Irish. Set in 1981, the film follows a withdrawn nine-year-old girl who experiences a loving home for the first time when she spends the summer on a farm with distant relatives in Rinn Gaeltacht, County Waterford. The film was nominated for Best International Feature Film at the 95th Academy Awards.
I really liked this film because the story is so human. It's a great film. We suffer with this little 9-year-old girl who is laughed at by her family and friends, and we follow her anxiously to her cousins' house for the holidays because her mum is about to give birth to a sixth child. The cousin and her Husband are very nice and loving but we fear the worst and discover a painful secret. Go and see this film and you won't be disappointed!

Re: The quiet girl by Colm Bairéad
I've just read a very interesting article about this film in vocable magazine. For Colm Bairéd, this nomination is very important, especially as the language of the film is Gaelic. His father used to speak to him in gaelic. This language is in danger of disappearing and is used by only 2% of Irish people. This film therefore has a great impact in giving the Irish people the desire to speak this language. The director wanted to save money so he cast the movie himself. He traveled across Ireland holding open auditions and met a hundred of young people. Fortunately he found a 11-year old first-time actor who attended a school that taught in the irish language. The girl had everything for the role.
