It's a simple story, told straight. In this futuristic world, the US Armed Forces discover a source of priceless minerals in Pandora, a distant moon orbiting a star. They want to send in their troops to tame the indigenous Na'vi people, before extracting the minerals. But before they send their rockets, they send in humans who have been transformed into Na'vi look-a-likes (they call them avatars) to infiltrate the peace-loving race and learn about their weaknesses and strengths. Enter, Jake Sully a paraplegic marine, who is promised a pair of legs for betraying the pacifists of Pandora. It doesn't take long before Jake falls in love with the beautiful Neytirithe daughter of the Na'vi chief and rose up against the US armed Forces. Can't blame him really, since his boss, Colonel Miles Quaritch is a mean, macabre monster who treats every non-American as ``a fly-bitten savage, living on trees.''
If you want to know more about the film, you can go on "Ici les francophones peuvent s'exprimer" and you will find a good summary and interesting comments. As mentioned, the story is simple : A clash betweem materialist and spiritual people, a clash between the land-owners and those who want to steal other people's land, a love story, a happy ending The title avatar also interested me because it is about "Forged" identity. Is it always possible to be genuine ? Please could you give your mind to it ?
