Re: Anglo-Saxon Cuisine
Hi Nick, Guilaine, Katy,everyone
I have just come across a very interesting article written by Jess Stauffenberg in the Independent about Britons'new favourite foods and how their eating habits have changed
English food might be now healthier but is it a shame that its tradition has changed isn't ?
Why is it that its most popular dish is now made with "curry" ?
I have just come across a very interesting article written by Jess Stauffenberg in the Independent about Britons'new favourite foods and how their eating habits have changed
- There is a drop in the popularity of tinned and canned food (freezer revolution)
- ready meals and convenience meat products have gone up fivefold
- People no longer choose white ready sliced bread but Brown and wholemeal instead
- Pizza and pasta have become very popular now and one may Wonder if it is an Americanisation or a true Italianisation of the British diet
- Today's generation are more squeamish about eating liver (or any offal) and prefer chicken breast slices
- seafood and salmon have captured British taste
- They drink less tea and more coffee
- British love of chips has remained unchanged (It is no longer takeaway kind wrapped in newspaper but rather oven chips bought at the supermarket)
- whole fruit and fresh fruit juice sale is increasing
English food might be now healthier but is it a shame that its tradition has changed isn't ?
British food has traditionally been based on beef, lamb, pork, chicken and fish and generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable
Why is it that its most popular dish is now made with "curry" ?

It is true that Britain is losing its reputation as Europe's culinary laughing stock. Fish and chips, baked beans and pudding are no longer the only food served in British restaurants

“Shoppers are more plugged in to where their food comes from than ever before, the internet has brought quality produce to our doorsteps at the click of a button, pop-up restaurants are showcasing the latest trends and exciting global cuisines are now as common as fish and chips.

Hi everyone
English eating habits are changing
They have healthier eating habits. Anything to add ?
English eating habits are changing
- the amount of canned peas have dropped thanks to the freezer revolution
- people no longer choose white ready sliced bread but Brown and wholemeal instead. Pizza and pasta make british meals more italian
- liver is disappearing and replaced by chicken
- more salmon and less white fish (omega 3)
- out with tea in with semi-skimmed milk
- in with chips and in with fruit
They have healthier eating habits. Anything to add ?

FOOD PORN or GASTROPORN
wikipedia a écrit:Food porn is a glamourized visual presentation of cooking or eating in advertisements, infomercials, blogs[1] cooking shows or other visual media.[2] Its origins come from a restaurant review e-commerce platform called Foodporn. Food porn often takes the form of food photography with styling that presents food provocatively, in a similar way to glamour photography or pornographic photography.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_porn
When a hungry brain is exposed to images of desirable food, it can't resist can it ?
The problem is that the food which look best are not the healthiest. Quite the reverse in fact. In the past there was no concern about what the foods looked like. The term gastroporn dates back to Paul Bocuse (1977)Apicius a écrit:The first taste is Always with the eyes

Being vegan has become trendy in rich countries
https://www.google.com/search?client=safari&sxsrf=ACYBGNSMpDBhroBaLp-13eqwGGxuW_MRYA%3A1582117910645&ei=FjRNXpz6JojeaqnbrZAG&q=veganism+in+rich+countries&oq=veganism+in+rich+countries&gs_l=mobile-gws-wiz-serp.1.0.35i39.0.0..222139...0.0..0.848.848.6-1......0.hFBZO8XPwCc
According to the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), meat consumption in the richest nations has risen 0.7% a year since 1991. Polling data is used to claim that the number of vegans in rich countries is both quite high—around 10% in some European countries—and growing.

Could "soylent"replace food ?
Je What is Soylent ?
what wikipedia says about soylent is=>HEREHave you ever wondered what the future of food might look like? Will drones deliver a Big Mac to your doorstep? Will grocery stores become obsolete? Those may seem like far-off questions, but they're a little bit closer than they appear. This article is part of a series in which I investigate some of the most recent futuristic explorations into food and eating. First up is Soylent! [/size]
Soylent is a product born out of the early 2010s in Silicon Valley. It was originally an experiment to see how its founders could bottle a meal's worth of macro- and micro- nutrients into a bottle. It began as a powder and evolved into a full-line of drinks and bars. Consumers can now purchase Soylent off the company website, from Amazon, or at their nearest grocery store.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/nutrition/the-future-of-food-soylent/ar-BB17kQkO
Hi everyone!
why would anyone ever want to give up the texture of crunchy bread, delicate desserts, or fresh crunchy salad greens- for a bottle of thick, milky, goo? Anyway One cannot take away what gives human beings the happiness of living together and which comes from eating tasty food together;
However, the challenge is to better feed humanity by preserving the environment.
1 Crop yields should be increased without increasing their surface area and without using harmful products (permaculture).
2 Livestock farming should decrease because 85% of cultivated land is used for animal feed, which means that we need to eat less meat.
3 Aqua culture should be improved and wild fishing better controlled
