Yes on 522

I-522 was brought to the ballot by over 350,000 Washingtonians because they believe every Washingtonian has the right to know what we’re eating. Why are out-of-state corporations spending millions to keep voters in the dark about their groceries? @[108451807072:274:WhiteWave Foods] uses some of the profits it earns by selling you its #organic and non-GMO products, to support one of the #GMO labeling movement’s fiercest enemies: The @[132644783412552:274:Grocery Manufacturers Association] (#GMA). The GMA is spending $7.2 million (so far) in Washington State to defeat I-522, a citizens’ initiative that would mandate labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in foods sold in grocery stores. It’s time to take action! First, Go to White Wave’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/WhiteWaveFoods and post: "Dear White Wave, I cannot in good conscience purchase your products with the knowledge that some of that money will be funneled through the GMA and used to defeat I-522. I am calling on you today to protest the GMA’s financial support of anti-labeling campaigns by withdrawing from the trade group, and to show your support for our right to know by making a financial contribution to the Yes on 522 Second, Take Action by Sending an email to White Wave: http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/o/50865/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=12139&track=FB&tag=FB

Hi everyone,

Things are moving in the States.

A combination of subsidies to overproduce corn following World War II, and cheap meat being processed in overcrowded farms—and fed some of this very corn—has cr...eated the perfect storm for bad health. Right now, processed corn is present in at least one-quarter of all food products in a supermarket… In 1990, it was difficult to find a state with a population of obese residents making up over 14% of the citizenry. But just 20 years later, there wasn't a single state in the union with obesity rates that low! Have you ever heard of SynBio? It's the new name for genetic engineering and it's being developed right now. The plan is to create synthetic versions of engineered ingredients. The advent of synthetic biology raises thorny economic and regulatory issues, such as whether such yeast-made ingredients can be called natural and whether developing countries dependent on these crops will be hurt. In a few hours the polls will close in Washington State, and in a few days we should know the outcome of the @[516766995052122:274:Yes on 522] vote. Whatever happens, we want to express tremendous gratitude for our customers who have supported us and this cause! We also know that as important as this vote is, it is just one skirmish in the ongoing battle for transparency in labeling and the protection of organic sustainable agriculture. Thank you and may we all fight on in joy and righteousness!

However:

I have a feeling there will be the need to fight on. Against corporate greed, lies, chemical companies, money laundering and voters who would believe big buck TV ads rather than use any informative reasoning.

Deadline to stop the FDA from approving GMO salmon

Any day now, the first genetically modified animal ever to enter our food supply, AquaBounty salmon, could be approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

This fish hasn't been proven safe for humans. But the FDA may approve it based on a limited, flawed, and inadequate study — despite the fact that the same study identified elevated allergy-causing potential,1 and elevated levels of the IGF-1 growth hormone, which is linked to colon, prostate and breast cancers.

That’s why we’re joining Senator Jeff Merkley in a last-ditch effort to demand the FDA reject approval of GMO salmon.

Anglo-Saxon Cuisine - Page 4 Empty Can You Cut The Mold Off Food and Eat It?

Hi everyone,

From TestTube:
Can You Cut The Mold Off Food and Eat It?
You go and pick up the leftover pizza from last week, and you notice part of it is moldy. If you cut off that part, is it safe to eat it? Anthony gets to the bottom of this extremely pressing question, because pizza is obviously extremely important, and the answer may not be as black and white as you'd might think.

Hi Muriel, hi everyone,

This doesn't concern the USA but I find important to point out Russia's freedom while the French have to keep trying to ban GMOs in our country because of Europe.
I discuss this point with Susan and explained to her that in the US, they tend to ignore Washington while in Europe, we need to take all of the 25-56 (?) countries together so that Brussels has got lots of power. ;(

-> Russia will not import GMO products - PM Medvedev
Russia will not import GMO products, the country’s Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said, adding that the nation has enough space and resources to produce organic food.

Moscow has no reason to encourage the production of genetically modified products or import them into the country, Medvedev told a congress of deputies from rural settlements on Saturday.

Lucky Russians!

If approved by the Vermont House of Representatives, who initially passed the bill before it made its way to the Senate, the law would take effect on July 1, 2016.

Hi Gérard, everyone !
I don't know much about GMO crops. I ask Patrick
Patrick has told me that GMOs are useful from a scientific point of view. Some medicines come from GMOs. Scientists must help science to progress for humanity's sake. When you let this research into the hands of people who are unethical, it might be extremely dangerous. what they want is money. Look at what is happening in Africa. The promotion of GMOs as solution is too often disrespectful to African culture. In our world ethics is so important. I wish politicians could have more.
The only thing I am sure is that it is important to label properly.
Vermont is on track to become the first state to label genetically modified foods
This bill is very good for the Americans.

Hi Muriel, Patrick,
Chemicals are not necessary to food.
In France, groups ask for ban.
In the United Sates, they ask for customer awareness: a clear label on food packaging, then customer do what they wish, buy or not.
American customers just want to know what they eat.

Vermont is the first state to vote for GMO Labelling.

http://www.doctissimo.fr/html/nutrition/mag_2002/mag1206/dossier/nu_6167_ogm_medicaments.htm
The only thing is to be very careful and not go in playing the sorcerer's apprentice
