It was Timmy’s 5th birthday and he was joyfully opening all the presents he received. He saved the biggest for last, so it took a while until he got to opening Grandma’s present.
“Wow” Timmy exclaimed in delight, upon seeing the mini drum set that his Grandmother got for him. “Thanks Grandma this is just what I wanted.”
It was after Timmy went to bed that Timmy’s mother approached her mother.
“Ma, I’m surprised at you, don’t you remember how it used to drive you crazy when we used to play the drums in the house growing up?”
Grandma smiled and then said “I remember, of course I remember.”

“OK everyone,” said the the instructor at the birthing class trying to get everyone’s attention. “We are going to do an exercise now, the purpose is to help the men sympathize with their partners.”
“We have here what’s called a pregnancy suit,” said the woman instructor, holding up an artificial stomach with a strap. “This imitates the feeling of being pregnant. Which Husband volunteer wants to be the first one to try it on?”
“I will” said one man, taking the suit and trying it on. “This isn’t too bad said the man walking around. I think I could get used to this.”
“Ok”, said the instructor smiling, “now I would like you to bend down and pick up my pen from the floor.”
“You want me to pick it up?” he said hesitantly, “just as I would if I was pregnant?” “Yes!” said the instructor.
“Honey,” said the man turning to his spouse “do you mind picking up that pen for me?”

Note that Americans say "mom/mommy" and Brits say "mum/mummy".

As for me I remember having written "mom" on Facebook and my great-nephew tried to correct me ... Matt was French but he's one of these guys who speaks British English better than French (his mother is a Kiwi); since the Brexit, he now has the double nationality NZ and French (he took studies in England; due to the Brexit and the possible threats, he prefered to be cautious).

Re: Dawn French Fan Club 3
Muriel, my dictionary tells me:
- "mam" is officially used in childish language
- "mama" and "mamma" are said to be used in the US (childish language)
However "mamma" also has the pejorative meaning of buxom woman (Fr "grosse mémère") so let's avoid it LOL

Look where i have found that http://dialectblog.com/2011/04/07/mom-mum-mam/
We have several informal words for “mother” in English: mum (heard in much of England), mom (heard in much of America), and mam (heard in Ireland and Northern England).

Muriel, the answer is "les gros yeux".gerardM a écrit:I couldn't find the meaning yet.MurielB a écrit:What does the look mean ? When you give someone the look, you show your interest. Is it right in that context Gérard ?
I hesitate between the French "les gros yeux" and "tu la vois celle-là ?", I'll inquire.
